CFB-9
is the ninth conference in a series which started 1985 in Halifax/Canada. CFB-9 addresses both the fundamental and applied aspects of circulating fluidized beds and fluidized bed systems. A particular characteristic of this conference is the balanced participation of experts from industry and academia. One part of the CFB-9 is the
4th International VGB Workshop „Operating Experience with Fluidised Bed Firing Systems“.
It is the fourth workshop in a series which started 2002 in Cologne/Germany. Organized by VGB PowerTech – the Germany based international association of power plant operators - this workshop provides a forum for the exchange of operating experiences with large-scale fluidized bed combustion systems.
In addition, the IEA Working Party on Fluidized Bed Combustion will integrate their spring 2008 meeting into the CFB-9 Conference. The IEA-FBC group under the chairmanship of Andres Cabanillas from Ciemat in Spain will not only have an Executive Committee meeting but will also organize a session on
Co-combustion and ash-related phenomena
which will be co-chaired by Andres Cabanillas and Bo Leckner. Within this session overview lectures will be presented by Bo Leckner on “The role of CFB in co-combustion” and by Mikko Hupa on "Ash behavior in fluidized bed combustion - recent research highlights".
Scope of the Conference
The program will include the following plenary lectures:
- A. Lyngfelt, M. Johansson and T. Mattisson (Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden)
Chemical-looping combustion - status of development - G.-N. Stamatelopoulos (ALSTOM Power Boiler GmbH, Germany), S. Darling (Alstom Power Inc., United States)
Alstoms's CFB Technology - A. Hotta, K. Nuortimo, T. Eriksson, J. Palonen, S. Kokki (Foster Wheeler Energia Oy, Finland)
CFB Technology Provides Solutions to Combat Climate Change - W. Ge, W. Wang, W. Dong, J. Wang, B. Lu, Q. Xiong, J. Li (Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China)
Meso-scale structure - a challenge of computational fluid dynamics for circulating fluidized bed risers
Furthermore in 180 papers new developments and emerging applications of circulating fluidized bed technology will be presented as well as results of original research and development, reports of industrial and operating experience, workshops and discussions on issues of current interest and research needs. Subjects will include:
- dynamics of gas/solids flow
- computational fluid mechanics
